How to Make Achari Dal Masala at Home (Step-by-Step)
Ingredients
  • Coriander seeds
  • Red chilli
  • Turmeric
  • Cumin seeds
  • Mustard seeds
  • Fenugreek seeds
  • Green chilli
  • Lentils
  • Black pepper
  • Fennel seeds
  • Tamarind
  • Lemon powder
  • Salt & Spices all in dry powder form
  • Contain Cottonseed oil
Method
  • Pressure cook 1 cup of Toor Dal (Arhar) with a pinch of turmeric until mushy.
  • Whisk it well.
  • Heat 2 tbsp mustard oil (recommended for the "achari" feel) or ghee.
  • Add a pinch of mustard seeds and whole dried red chilies.
  • Add 2 chopped green chilies.
  • Stir in 1.5 tbsp Galaji Achari Dal Masala.
  • Sauté for 30 seconds (don't let the spices burn).
  • Pour this tempering over the cooked dal.
  • Add a splash of water if it's too thick and bring to a boil.
  • Garnish with fresh coriander and a tiny bit of lemon juice to enhance the tang.
  • For Onion/Garlic Lovers: Sauté 1 medium chopped onion and 1 tsp crushed garlic in the oil until the onions are golden-brown before adding the Achari Masala
