How to Make Gujarati Dal Masala at Home (Step-by-Step)
Ingredients
  • Coriander seeds
  • Chilli
  • Lentils
  • Turmeric
  • Dry mango
  • Ginger
  • Mustard seeds
  • Fenugreek seeds
  • Cumin seeds
  • Black pepper
  • Sugar
  • Salt & Spices all in dry powder form
  • Contain Cottonseed oil
Method
  • Pressure cook 1 cup of Toor Dal with peanuts, dry dates (optional), and a pinch of turmeric.
  • Whisk until very smooth and watery.
  • Heat 2 tbsp oil/ghee.
  • Add mustard seeds, cumin, a few fenugreek seeds, and a sprig of curry leaves.
  • Stir in 1.5 tbsp Galaji Gujarati Dal Masala.
  • Add the cooked dal, and the essential Gujarati duo: a piece of jaggery (sweet) and kokum or lemon juice (sour).
  • Add 1 small chopped tomato.
  • Let the dal boil vigorously for 10-12 minutes; the more it boils, the better the flavors meld.
