Ingredients
- Coriander seeds
- Cumin Seeds
- Chilli
- Star Aniseeds
- Turmeric
- Sugar
- Curry Leaves
- Black Pepper
- Dry Mango
- Salt & Spices all in dry powder form
- Contain Cotton seed oil
Method
- Soak 1/2 cup Rice and 1/2 cup Toor Dal (Pigeon Peas) for 30 minutes.
- Pressure cook the rice and dal with 4 cups of water, salt, and a pinch of turmeric until very soft and mushy.
- Heat 2 tbsp Ghee in a pan.
- Add 1 tsp cumin seeds and 2 dried red chilies.
- Add 1 tsp ginger paste and 1 finely chopped tomato.
- Sauté until the tomato is soft.
- Add 2 tbsp Galaji Dal Khichadi Masala.
- Add the cooked dal-rice mix and a splash of hot water to adjust the consistency to a flowy, "liquid gold" state.
- Let it simmer for 2 minutes.
- Top with a fresh dollop of ghee and serve with Gujarati Kadhi or a simple pickle.
- For Onion/Garlic Lovers: Sauté 1 small chopped onion and 3-4 cloves of minced garlic in the ghee until golden brown before adding the tomatoes for a more pungent, "Lasan Tarka" flavor.
