How to Make Dal Khichadi Masala at Home (Step-by-Step)
Ingredients
  • Coriander seeds
  • Cumin Seeds
  • Chilli
  • Star Aniseeds
  • Turmeric
  • Sugar
  • Curry Leaves
  • Black Pepper
  • Dry Mango
  • Salt & Spices all in dry powder form
  • Contain Cotton seed oil
Method
  • Soak 1/2 cup Rice and 1/2 cup Toor Dal (Pigeon Peas) for 30 minutes.
  • Pressure cook the rice and dal with 4 cups of water, salt, and a pinch of turmeric until very soft and mushy.
  • Heat 2 tbsp Ghee in a pan.
  • Add 1 tsp cumin seeds and 2 dried red chilies.
  • Add 1 tsp ginger paste and 1 finely chopped tomato.
  • Sauté until the tomato is soft.
  • Add 2 tbsp Galaji Dal Khichadi Masala.
  • Add the cooked dal-rice mix and a splash of hot water to adjust the consistency to a flowy, "liquid gold" state.
  • Let it simmer for 2 minutes.
  • Top with a fresh dollop of ghee and serve with Gujarati Kadhi or a simple pickle.
  • For Onion/Garlic Lovers: Sauté 1 small chopped onion and 3-4 cloves of minced garlic in the ghee until golden brown before adding the tomatoes for a more pungent, "Lasan Tarka" flavor.
