Ingredients
- Coriander seeds
- Cumin seeds
- Chilli
- Green chilli
- Black pepper
- Turmeric
- Lentils
- Curry leaves
- Salt & Spices all in dry powder form
- Contain Cottonseed oil
Method
- Pressure cook 1 cup of Toor Dal (Arhar) with turmeric until very soft.
- Whisk until smooth.
- Heat 2 tbsp oil (or peanut oil for authenticity).
- Add a pinch of mustard seeds.
- Stir in 2 tbsp Galaji Kolhapuri Dal Masala.
- Add 1 cup of tomato puree and sauté until the oil starts to separate and the masala smells smoky.
- Add the cooked dal and 1 cup of water.
- Simmer for 10 minutes.
- Garnish with a mountain of fresh coriander and a squeeze of lime.
- For Onion/Garlic Lovers: Sauté 1 large finely chopped onion and 1 tbsp of minced garlic until they are deep golden-brown before adding the masala for that classic "Dhaba" pungency.
